Activity Level

We walk 2-5 miles a day, typically over uneven surfaces, climb and descend stairs. You may have to roll or carry your own luggage, possibly up and down stairs to your room. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

Itinerary

A welcoming and orientation after arrival. Before going to dinner in Puerto Morelos, a walk through the village will be done to orient you. You are walking on the land of ancient and present-day Maya. The local Maya women have a chant, "Teene' quin u'uyic a d'aan, Ixchel", translated as "I hear you calling, Ixchel." Ixchel is a Maya goddess of the moon traditional Maya medicine, and love of the Earth. What might Ixchel be saying to you? After dinner, we will regroup for pranayama, meditation, and time to journal about our thoughts and intentions for the retreat. D

Gentle yoga and meditation, We will go to the Ixchel Jungle Spa for a special 1 hour Maya massage. Local Maya women practice traditional healing techniques, including Maya abdominal massage and traditional massage. They offer healing massages in screened jungle palapas. It is an incredible massage experience to feel the soft jungle breezes with birds singing in the background. After your massage, enjoy shopping at the Jungle Market for crafts made by Maya women in local villages. Free time in the afternoon and later we will have dinner together B

Morning walk (2.5 hrs) through the Colonia. The village of Puerto Morelos is divided by a mangrove between the seaside area and the Colonia where the local people live and shop. You will get a full history of the area as well as information on some of the local street food treasures. Lunch will be at one of the cafes in the Colonia. B, L

Early morning journey to the famed Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the world, built by the Maya. You will see the Temple of the Warriors, Kukulcan Pyramid, The Ball game area, the Caracol, believed to be an astronomical observatory, and much more. Evening yoga and meditation. B, L

Morning yoga and meditation. The rest of the day is for you to explore or just rest. .This is a free day to explore the local markets and possibly snorkel at the reef. The protected National Reef Park just offshore is part of the great Mesoamerican Reef, second-largest coral reef in the world. You may also want another massage or just enjoy a quiet beach day reading and resting. B

Morning yoga and meditation. Traditional Mexican cuisine was recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. You will learn how to make authentic Mexican dishes during this hands-on cooking lesson. B, L

Morning yoga and meditation. Pick your activity today. You may want to take a bus down to Tulum, ancient Mayan site by the ocean, 1.5 hour ride, go snorkeling, get a massage, shop in the village, beach day. We will gather together for dinner on our final night in Puerto Morelos. B, D
